The Hong Jin-ki Law Research Foundation (Chairman Hong Seok-jo) announced on the 5th that three out of the 14 volumes of the Yumin Series were selected as '2022 Outstanding Academic Books' in the Social Sciences Division of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea.

Since 2020, the foundation has been awarding the law book of the year as the Yumin Book Award. The award is given to recently published law books that have contributed greatly to the development of legal culture, are helpful for legal research and practical legal education, or are judged to contribute to the development of national legal awareness. The winner will receive a prize of 10 million won.

The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea selects excellent academic books every year and distributes them to university libraries in Korea. This year, 3,003 academic books published from March 2021 to February 2022 were reviewed, and 110 books, including three volumes of the Yumin Series, were recently selected in the social sciences category.

The three books selected as excellent academic books are “Lectures on Korean Legal History through Case Laws and Historical Materials” (written by Shim Hee-gi), “Introduction to Islamic Law” (translated by Myeong Soon-gu), and “Contract Law and Bankruptcy Law” (written by Choi Jun-gyu). Including “Formation and Development of Administrative Litigation Law in Korea and Japan” (written by Ha Myeong-ho), which was selected in 2019, a total of four books from the Yumin Series have been selected as excellent academic books by the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea.

The foundation was established in 2016 in the name of Professor Yumin Hong Jin-ki to support creative legal research and foster excellent lawyers. Since then, it has been carrying out activities such as awarding the Hong Jin-ki Law Research Award, supporting the cost of publishing law books, supporting the writing of doctoral dissertations in law, and supporting the dispatch of legal interns to international organizations and participation in international lectures.
